Course Descriptions

The 100-mile (160km) Big Canola is the crown jewel of Backroads Gravel, showcasing the region’s finest gravel roads and stunning countryside. With over 1,200m of climbing, this route demands consistent effort, keeping riders engaged with every pedal stroke.

Expect picturesque canola and crop lined roads, exciting water crossings, and farm tracks that add to the adventure. At the 138km mark, the infamous “Ward’s Wall” awaits — a formidable climb that can push even seasoned riders to their limits, especially with tired legs.

To support you on this epic journey, three aid stations are positioned along the route. Riders are encouraged to make use of these stops to refuel and stay strong as they push toward the finish line.

Gravel State Championships

Backroads will be hosting the inagrual state gravel championship in 2025. This applies for the 160km and 100km events only based on the below age categories.

Please note that you are required to be an AusCycling full or off-road member at the time of the event.
